The largest fortified town in Europe today, dating back to the early 13th century. Carcassonne's double walls are more than 2 miles long with 52 towers. 
Walt Disney visited with his family in 1957, and built his theme park castle after this one. 
Parts of Robin Hood (1991) with Kevin Costner were filmed here.
